How do I purchase lumber from Downes & Reader?

Downes & Reader accepts customers of all types. Whether you are looking for a few boards for a home project or you are looking for a supplier to fill your lumber needs, we can help you. Our website contains multiple areas to help each type of our customers.

Purchasing in our Retail (Walk-In)

Looking for a few boards to pick up and happen to live within our yards in Stoughton and Blakeslee? We offer a Retail walk-in area with self-service racks for those getting small amounts of lumber. Customers can grab a cart from outside, pick out the boards or plywood they are looking for, and then have an employee tally them up to pay inside. We can also make rough cuts on lumber and plywood to fit in your vehicle.

Can’t find what you are looking for?

Sometimes we may not have the quantity of boards you are looking for or we might not have the species available in the racks. To view what is currently being stocked in the racks, use our Retail Availability page. If you do not see what you are looking for, you can place a Retail Request or you can call us at 1-800-788-5568 for Stoughton or 1-800-594-3150 for Blakeslee.

Don’t live near us? Use our Online Store.

If you would like to purchase lumber from us, but you live too far away to come down to our Retail, now you can order from our Online Store. We offer free ground shipping to continental United States for all orders 25 board feet or more on lumber and over $35 for piece goods. We also offer a vast collection of turning squares and leg stock  you normally can not get in our Retail.

If you do not see something we carry but not online, you can always place a Quote Request.

Why is pricing online different than your Retail (Walk-In) or Wholesale pricing?

Our Online Store is prices to be competitive with other online lumber carriers, thus pricing you see online will be different than our Retail or Wholesale pricing. If you live nearby, then we recommend coming down to our Retail area for the best possible price. Customers looking for a lumber supplier (250 BF or more) should either call 1-800-788-5568 to speak with our sales staff or place a Quote Request.

How to purchase Wholesale

We love to be your lumber supplier. To get in touch for wholesale purchasing, please call our 800 number to speak with our sales staff. If you have trouble reaching us during our business hours, then feel free to drop off a Quote Request.

Wholesale orders are generally for orders of 250 BF or more. If your order is less than 250, than shipping fees may apply. Delivery is limited to about a 100 mile radius from our Stoughton and Blakeslee yards. For more information on deliveries, visit our Delivery Page.

Wholesale orders can also be milled to your specifications. We do not mill mouldings, ship lap, or tongue and groove, but we can mill the blanks. For more information on milling and our abilities, visit our Milling Page.
